alexandre dumas completed in 1844. it is one of The author's most popular works, along with The three musketeers.

The story takes place in france, italy and islands in The mediterranean. it begins from before The hundred days period. The historical setting is a fundamental element. an adventure story concerned with Themes of hope, justice, vengeance, mercy and forgiveness, it focuses on a man who is wrongfully imprisoned, escapes from jail, acquires a fortune and sets about getting revenge on those responsible for his imprisonment. in addition, it is a story that involves romance, loyalty, betrayal and selfishness, shown throughout The story as characters slowly reveal Their true inner nature.

in 1815 edmond dantes, a young and merchant sailor who has just recently been granted The succession of a captain , returns to

hometown to marry his fiancee mercedes . however, he is accused of

being a bonapartist traitor by a friend who is jealous him, and is arrested . villefort, The prosecutor, senteces him without trial to life imprisonment.

in The jail, he gets acquainted with faria. over The eight years,

faria gives dantes an extensive education and tells dantes The

treasure .later, dantes escapes and becomes The Count of Monte

Cristo.returning to hometown, dantes learns that his oTher enemies have all become wealthy. dantes begins take revenge on The three men .in paris, due to his knowledge and rhetorical power, everyone find his charming and seek his friendship. The Count uses danglars’greed,

quickly destroys danglars' fortune and makes him starve to death. years before,ali-- The ruler of janina, had been betrayed by fernand . The Count finds someone to publish this thing in a newspaper. as a result, fernand is brought to trial. while villefort's second wife want to murder her step daughter. The Count and "innocently" introduces her to The technique of poison. that makes her kills a lot of people. finally ,

danglars is being mad. having found peace, dantes leaves paris and to find a new life . The reader is left with a final thought: "all human

wisdom is contained in These two words, 'wait and hope".

today i will give you a presentation about a literary work, The Count of Monte Cristo(基督山伯爵). i read this world-famous book when i was a junior student. at tha ……此处隐藏1583个字……ones who hate me”. in this story, The kindhearted people have happyending, The evils we bring on ourselves are The gardest to bear. it fits to our chinese minding very much. so it can bring happiness and leisure to us.

The story is full of romantic. dantes met faris by chance, faria was rich and wise, faria also changed dantes from a sailor to noble. These are much like a myth. The Count of nonte cnsto became a noble, just like a “superman” or “god”, he can do whatever he want to do. he makes plans painstakingly and forces his enemies into impasse. all The people around him are his tools for vengeance. but all of that is based on his treasure, The world is controled by money. anyone who owns enough money can make The society round with him. it shows that The relationship in capitalism society is The relationship of money.

There are many philosophy sentences in The story which show author’s oppinion. for

example,”There is neiTher happiness nor misery in The world, There is only The comparison of one state with anoTher, nothing more.” ”he who has felt The deepest grief is best able to experience supreme happiness.” “until The day when god will deign to reveal The future to man, all human wisdom is contained in These two words---wait and hope.” These words contain wize and show a kind of attitude towards life. life is full of hope, we should not become pessimismmists.

in a word, it is an excellent book. it has romantic and novel idea and set up an interesting work.. we should read, understand and appreciate it.

The Count of Monte Cristo begins with The arrival of a ship in marseilles, france. one of The crew is a young sailor named edmond dantès. dantès seems to be on The threshold of great

happiness. morrel, The shipowner, promotes him to captain, and he is about to marry a beautiful girl named mercédès. however, at The feast before The wedding dantès is arrested for treason. he is innocent, but has been entrapped by a plot hatched by danglars, a fellow sailor who is jealous of dantès's promotion, and fernand, who was his rival for The love of mercédès. The plot is aided by villefort, a corrupt prosecutor, and dantès is imprisoned in The chateau d'if. he is not told why he is imprisoned. he remains in The chateau d'if for fourteen years. during this time he meets The abbé faria, a fellow prisoner who has been digging what he hoped would be a tunnel to freedom, but which leads instead to dantès's cell. The abbé is a learned man, and he teaches dantès everything he knows. he also tells dantès The location of a secret treasure, which is buried on an uninhabited island called Monte Cristo, in The mediterranean. when The abbé dies, dantès switches places with The corpse and is carried out of The prison for burial. he plans to escape from The grave. but instead of burying him, The jailers toss him into The sea. even so, he manages to swim to safety. he makes his way to Monte Cristo and discovers The treasure.
